Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of HintDeck ("HintDeck," "we," "us"), the tooltip-authoring service available at hintdeck.com and app.hintdeck.com. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms.

The service

HintDeck lets you add hover/click tooltips to a website you own or have permission to modify, by pasting one script tag and authoring tooltips in our dashboard. We serve a small JavaScript runtime from our content delivery network, and your published tooltips through a public API endpoint.

Your account

You're responsible for safeguarding the credentials of any account you create with us, and for any activity under that account. You must be at least 18 years old, or have a parent or guardian's consent, to use the service.

Acceptable use

You may not use HintDeck to publish content that is unlawful, infringing, defamatory, malicious, or that targets visitors to a site you don't own or have permission to modify. You may not attempt to interfere with or compromise the service's integrity, security, or availability.

Plans, billing, and trials

Paid plans (Single, Double, Sundae) include a 14-day free trial. We collect a payment method when the trial starts; you are not charged until the 14-day trial ends, and you can cancel any time before then through the customer portal in your dashboard to avoid being billed. Annual plans are billed up front for the year on day 14. Monthly plans are billed each month starting on day 14.

You can change plans, update your payment method, or cancel your subscription at any time through the customer portal in your dashboard.

Refunds

We do not offer pro-rata refunds for partial billing periods. If you cancel an annual plan mid-cycle, the remaining unused time is credited to your account and applied to future bills; we don't issue cash refunds. If you believe you've been charged in error, email hello@hintdeck.com and we'll work with you in good faith.

Soft limits and grace

Each plan includes a monthly tooltip-views allowance. If you exceed your allowance, your tooltips continue to render on your site for a 7-day grace period; during this window we'll show in-dashboard prompts to upgrade. After 7 days over cap in the same calendar month, the dashboard pauses editing and analytics ingestion until you upgrade or the next month begins. We will not stop rendering your already-published tooltips on your visitors' page-loads.

Your content

You retain ownership of all tooltip content you create. You grant us a limited, revocable license to host, display, and serve it as needed to operate the service. You're responsible for ensuring your content does not violate any third-party rights or applicable law.

Service changes

We may add, remove, or change features over time. We'll give reasonable notice for changes that materially affect a paid plan. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms; we'll generally try to reach out first unless the violation is severe (e.g. abuse, fraud, attempted compromise).

Liability

The service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the service will not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months prior to the claim.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
